Pedal, roll, jump… Try the new pumptrack!
On June 7th, 2025, the Municipality launched the pumptrack at the Entr’amis Municipal Park, located next to the community center. This asphalt track, the only one in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, welcomes both young scooter, skateboard or BMX apprentices as well as professionals. Indeed, the space is divided into two sections: one for the younger or less experienced athletes, and another for those who wish to try out more elaborate tricks.
In all cases, it’s a gathering spot where pleasure always shows up! Many thanks, by the way, to the great group who kept me company on my perilous two-wheeled adventure.
An immersion into the past at the Dispensaire de la Garde (Nursing Station)
Let’s head towards the Dispensaire de la Garde for an authentic time traveling experience! The museum has been established in the former nursing station of Gertrude Duchemin who, from 1936 to 1976, practiced nursing care, midwife activities, administrative duties and even, occasionally, veterinarian care. When visiting the location, you dive into the history of yesteryear country medicine and the fascinating everyday life of colonial nurses.
Carried by the enthusiastic guides and the accurate reconstitutions, you get to discover the hard - but equally fascinating - reality of the not-so-far-ago time of our history. You learn that when she arrived in La Corne, in 1936, nurse Duchemin first stayed in the chapel-school and travelled around by foot, snowshoes or cross-country skis for an average of 30 kilometers everyday to get to her patients’ bedside, and rested solely on Sundays…
Devotion, heart, discipline, determination: so many qualities incarnated by these pillar-women that command respect. Absolutely!
Outside of the museum, everything invites you to prolong the pleasure
The museum site overflows with possible activities to prolong the pleasure. Indeed, on top of the historical visit, you can play mini-golf under the open sky or rent a bicycle and explore the area to your own rhythm… and even get to the pumptrack, why not (haha) !
Picnic tables are set up on the site, perfect to have a snack without wasting any minute between the visit and your next activity. In short, at the Dispensaire de la Garde, pleasure happens before, during and after your tour.
The Askikwaj ornithological forest: a peace haven for the bird lovers
If you enjoy slowing down and surrendering to a contemplative and listening state, the Askikwaj ornithological forest is a must. The location offers two perfect trails to hike and observe the birds. The Sentier des Belvédères is easily accessible and suits all ages. It’s a short hike… but such a spectacular one! Under an hour, you reach the summit and you can marvel at the surrounding nature panoramas.
Meanwhile, the Sentier des Oiseaux requires more endurance with its five kilometers course. It’s the ideal option for bird lovers and enthusiastic ornithologists: there are many nesting areas which facilitate bird observation. A sport-like immersion, but a soft one, in their natural habitat.
