The Anishinaabe people have inhabited Abitibi-Témiscamingue for over 8,000 years. They were the ones to welcome the first French-Canadiens and who guided them towards its riches and helped them survive the harsh Canadian winter.  

Today, the Anishinaabe people are grouped into seven communities spread across the territory of the region. They gather to celebrate, protect, and transmit their culture during Pow-Wows, large gatherings that take place twice a year.
