Fall Sports to Try: Live the Season of Colors Outdoors

Fall lands in Abitibi-Témiscamingue with shorter days, crisp air, and trees bursting with color. But hey, that’s no excuse to stay glued to your couch! Around here, we get outside, we move, and we soak it all in. Whether you’re the hardcore sporty type, the laid-back explorer, or just plain curious, fall is the perfect time to feast your eyes (and give your cardio a little workout).

Biking in All Its Forms

Into bike touring? Gravel? Or just want to cruise easy and enjoy the view? Hop on your bike, pick your playground—paved roads, gravel paths, or mountain trails—and let the colors blow your mind.

Looking for more of a challenge? Head over to Val-d’Or’s Recreational Forest, Mont Powell in Rouyn-Noranda, Camp Dudemaine in Amos, the Skinoramik Club in Sainte-Germaine-Boulé, or Pointe-aux-Roches in Latulipe-et-Gaboury. Trust us, your legs will remember.

Pro tip: Dress in layers (like an onion, but less smelly), head out early for that golden light, and don’t forget your helmet. Fall is gorgeous, but that’s no reason to forget the basics of safety.

Canoe, Kayak, and Calm Waters

Before the ice sets in, grab a last adventure on the water. The Bell, Kinojévis, or Harricana rivers are perfect for it. Honestly, paddling through fiery fall colors feels like meditation. No canoe or kayak? No big deal! Plenty of places rent or lend gear. All you need is good vibes and a beanie.

Friendly reminder: The water’s way colder this time of year. Pack a snack, bring a warm layer, and keep an eye on conditions.

One Last Swing on the Greens

Frost is coming, but until then, our golf courses are still open. Squeeze in one last round with a postcard-perfect backdrop.

Fall golf isn’t just about swings—it’s the silence, the golden light, and the leaves drifting down while you search for your ball in the rough. Almost poetic (if you forget your score).

Watch Nature (Not Just Your Phone Screen)

Wetlands and fields are buzzing with life: geese, sandhill cranes, and more are in full migration mode. Grab your binoculars and go catch this free wildlife show.

And if you’re more of a foodie, it’s also mushroom season. Boletes, chanterelles, morels… head out for a tasty hunt. Just play it safe—go with someone who knows their stuff, because “mystery mushroom” doesn’t always end well.

A Few Hacks to Make It Even Better

Accès Plein Air is your go-to adventure GPS in Abitibi-Témiscamingue: maps, photos, tips, pro tricks, it’s all there.

You don’t need to buy all the gear—rentals and loans have your back. Kayaks, bikes, canoes: check out Coop de l’Arrière-pays and you’re all set.

Our trails are super diverse. Dog people, families, folks with reduced mobility, chill walkers, or “I want to feel my legs burn” types—there’s something for everyone.

Move, Breathe, Live It Up: That’s Fall Here

Fall doesn’t last long. But in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, every day is pure gold. So get out there—hop on your bike, grab your canoe, play that last round of golf, or hunt for mushrooms.

Make yourself memories that’ll keep you warm when winter hits (and we both know it’s gonna hit hard).
