The Best of Fall according to people from here

Mise à jour

Every region of Québec possesses its uniqueness when the time comes to speak about seasons. In Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Fall landscape is marked by a vibrant color palette with a predominance of ochre yellow and greens from green moss to the very deep forest green. Our territory, during that season, offers a variety of activities that celebrate the richness of our nature and culture. We asked people from here to let us know what their favorite fall destinations are in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Fall for the outdoors lovers

Without a doubt, the most emblematic characteristic of Fall in Abitibi-Témiscamingue is the spectacular transformation of the boreal forest. To experience this fully, Bianca Bédard suggests a hike of her favorite trail, the Sentier du Grand Héron (the Grand Heron Trail) in Macamic, which is sadly closed this year. Thus, she adds the trails of Lake Opasatica, which she places ex æquo in her hard with the Grand Heron Trail. The season allows us to observe the fauna and flora under a new day, offering nature lovers the opportunity to live unforgettable moments. She precises that "the variety of floristic species carries crazy color schemes. The view of the horizon, both feet on the rock formation, it’s amazing. When the weather is on our side, the golden rays of Fall shine on the neighboring lakes, such a beauty!"

In her opinion, Barbara Beranek loves the Collines d’Alembert a lot when it comes to a Fall stroll in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. She also affirms that "the cranberry picking, when we know where to go, is one of my favorite seasonal activities." On that topic, for those who are interested, know that wild cranberries grow in wetlands.

Finally, for Marie-Eve Sigouin, it’s the mushroom picking that sparks her interest. In the forest of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, we can find many edible mushrooms, such as crab mushroom, different types of boletus, chanterelle, morel and many more. Do not forget to bring your guide if you choose to play pretend being a mycologist!

Our lakes and rivers in all seasons

For Julie Côté, her "softest Fall ritual is a stroll on the shores of Lake Temiskaming, at the point of the site of Fort Témiscamingue where there is a strait. During highly windy days, the force of nature nests profoundly inside of [her]."

She is not the only one to source energy via lakes and rivers of the region because Melodie Rheault confides that in the Fall, she makes sure to have a final swim into fresh lake waters and warms up in the spa afterwards.

It’s still time to stroll around on a bike!

The Fall is also a great moment for canoe-kayak excursions along the rivers and lakes, as well as for the bicycle excursions during which we can admire the picturesque Fall landscapes. To do so, Stéphanie Poitras underlines that a must when it comes to Fall activities in Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a mountain bike ride at the Forêt Récréative. Cheeks flushed by the fresh air are an important part of the seasonal color palette.

Culinary Fall treats

The food lovers will be delighted to taste the culinary fall treats in Abitibi-Témicamingue. Mélissa Drainville precises that, in her opinion, the best soups can be found at the Sandwicherie of Val-d’Or. Barbara Beranek affirms otherwise that the Café Céramique Ô Terrier owns the secret for the best broth. One will have to test both to know who says the truth. Quel dommage!

Randa Napky, for her part, loves her favorite delicacy: Becs Sucrés Salés’ mille-feuilles, in Val-d’Or. Said treats are served freshly made every Friday. When it comes to Dominique Roy, she adores the fall coffees at the Bar Librairie-Livresse. Also, Barbara Beranek admits to us that it’s her favorite spot for the season.
