24 Hours in Abitibi-Ouest with the Family: Culture, Nature and Local Discoveries

BY Audrey-Anne Poirier, en collaboration avec Tourisme Abitibi-Ouest

In the mood for a family excursion involving nature, art and heritage? Here is the write-up of our perfect day spent in Abitibi-Ouest, an authentic and welcoming territory where every stop was a discovery.

Duparquet Golf Club

114, rue Principale, Duparquet | Everyday from 9 AM to 7 PM

We began our day well with a round of golf at the Club de Golf Duparquet, known for the quality of its course and its panoramic view of the mountains, the peaceful lake and a generous nature. Even as beginners, we felt warmly welcomed. The course is accessible, pleasing to complete and perfect to get initiated without pressure. Golf cart, resto-bar, relaxed ambiance… we got everything needed for a successful moment. That’s a family favorite we cannot wait to relive again!

Galerie Sang Neuf-Art

109 A, rue Principale, Palmarolle | From June 4th to September 1st, 2025 - From Wednesday to Sunday, 12 PM to 6 PM

Located behind a house in Palmarolle, the Sang-Neuf-Art Gallery is a hidden treasure celebrating its 41st anniversary this year. It’s an accessible art gallery, but without any compromise on quality. We get to discover regional artists, and artists from Montreal, in an intimate and warm ambiance. The owners guided us around with passion throughout the two different exhibitions, comprising a permanent room as well as spaces renewed every two weeks. Every artwork is for sale… hard to resist!

Molesworth Covered Bridge

Chemin des 2e et 3e Rangs, Macamic

Let’s head towards Macamic and stop by Molesworth Covered Bridge, built in 1930. This bridge, loaded with history, is a symbol of the rural heritage of the Abitibi-Ouest. Its unique architecture allow us to travel to a whole other era. This stop is perfect for a family portrait and a dose of local history!

Hébergement Le Bed’Art

7, 4e Avenue Est, Macamic

The Bed’Art, it’s way more than a simple accommodation, it’s an immersion into art and nature at the very heart of Macamic. Every corner is well decorated, in a creative spirit that reflects perfectly the warm personality of Nancy, the owner. We loved the garden, the calm of the avenue, the proximity, and especially… the artistic materials made available to us. A unique location where to sleep, dream and create. Fishing rods are also available to fishermen, whether beginners or highly experienced. Nancy also shared with us that bicycle rental services will also be available soon.

L’Accalmie chez Juliette

30, 4e Avenue Ouest, La Sarre

Looking for a refreshment? We stopped by L’Accalmie chez Juliette to savour the Drink of the Summer: the Accalmie Glacée, a cold latte with honey and whipped milk, a perfect balance. Add a cinnamon roll croiffin, and you get something absolutely divine! We leave with arms full of treats: white bread and brioche bread, perfect for tomorrow’s breakfast at the bonfire.

Anecdote: Juliette is the first name of Simon’s grand-mother, one of the three owners. She used to cook in this same building which used to be a retirement home.

Le Poste

980, Montée des Garde Feux, Val-Saint-Gilles

We complete this beautiful day in a yurt at Le Poste, an unusual accommodation located at the entrance of a hiking trail, slightly isolated from the rest of the site for great tranquility. Well equipped (BBQ, hot plate, wood stove, air conditioning, sauna, etc.), our yurt had everything required to cook, relax and enjoy the moment.

In the morning, a coffee from Le Poste in hand and some fire-toasted bread from L’Accalmie chez Juliette, we enjoy the calm and beauty of the family friendly location. A resourcing experience.

The Abitibi-Ouest, it’s the promise of authentic discoveries, quiet landscapes, and activities that mixes culture, history and nature. Whether it’s for a weekend or a short stay, this area welcomes you with arms wide open, with warmth and originality.
