By courtesy of: Christian\u202fLeduc&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TOURISM AND INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES\u00a0<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether visitors in the region come from here or from other regions or provinces, the flood of tourists bringing in our regional ecosystem, with their pleasure crafts, nonnative microorganisms or aquatic plants is a threat to the health of our waterways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As eradicating those species is almost impossible, the only way to prevent their spread is the cleaning of pleasure crafts and nautical equipment: canoes, kayaks, standup paddle boards, rowboats, diving equipment, etc. You must clean anything that has been in contact with water before moving to another waterway!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>HOW DO YOU CLEAN YOUR PLEASURE CRAFT?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>INSPECT anything that has been in contact with water to remove plants, visible debris and mud from the equipment used.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DRAIN the water that has accumulated in, among others, the craft, the fish wells, the motor, the bilge and the icebox, about a hundred feet away from the water point.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CLEAN the craft and all equipment with a pressure washer to effectively remove all organisms without damaging the craft or the equipment, OR let them dry for at least five days.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>REPEAT these steps after each use.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>CLEANING THOROUGHLY YOUR NAUTICAL EQUIPMENT COULD PAY OFF!<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To encourage recreational boaters to use the different cleaning stations located on the AbitibiT\u00e9miscamingue territory, CREAT\u202flaunched, at the beginning of summer, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creat08.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\"><em>SOIS PAS NONO, LAVE TON BATEAU [DON\u2019T BE STUPID, CLEAN YOUR BOAT]<\/em><\/a> initiative, which is a summer contest to control the spread of aquatic invasive alien species. The contest prize is a kayak worth\u202f$700, courtesy of Marine\u202fLamy.
